Thanksgiving roadtrip?

If you are traveling this Thanksgiving holiday, here’s a way to help avoid hearing too many “are we there yet” whines during your trip! Head on over and get a free Thanksgiving Road Trip Activity Book that can help keep the kids entertained during your travels. (Thanks The Freebie Blogger). Here are some other ideas to help make the trip a success:
Roll of Quarters Countdown. Give each child a roll of quarters ($10). Everytime they fight, whine, complain — whatever you decide, they owe you a quarter. Then, when you get to your destination, they get to keep whatever money they have left to spend as they desire.
Gifts a plenty. Stop by the $1 bin at Target or your dollar store and pick up small gifts. Wrap them in foil or Sunday comics and every hour or so, let each open a new present. Try to get things that they can do and they’ll usually stay occupied until time for the next gift.
Bring snacks (and drinks). I always keep small snacks in a bag. This really helps when I get the “I’m hungry” whine as I toss back a bag of fruit snacks or crackers and we’re set. I also keep extra sippies with water in case we need it (of course, we minimize drinks if we can to cut down on bathroom stops).
Play highway games. Look for license plates from other states or play the alphabet game on billboards. These can definitely keep your children entertained and even save your sanity.
Let your child pack his/her activity bag. I let my kids pick a few things that THEY want to take with them. That way, they have a say in what goes into the van and are less likely to complain that something was left behind.
Good luck with your trip and hopefully you return without too many travel woes!
